Government of Gujarat has decided to organize a one-day session
In a groundbreaking initiative, the government of Gujarat has decided to organize a one-day session of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly where selected students would sit in as MLAs. In this experimental program to be held on July 21, 182 students will run the assembly. The program is aimed at helping the youth understand the process of democracy. Assembly Speaker Dr. Nima Acharya said students will also get to see for themselves how the government works, how the budget is decided and the discussions that happen on regular basis.

The event has been organized by the School Post Institute. The institute’s Managing Director Vikas Rajwanshi explained that students who applied were tested on knowledge of current affairs Indian politics and speaking skills. They went through several rounds of interviews. the candidates were later finalized based on each student’s unique capabilities. About 3,500 schools associated with the School Post in different cities including, Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, and others, were approached for student interviews. More than 390 schools were willing to send their students to the program. The interview process lasted for more than two months.

As such Mishri Shah a class-12 student at Navarachna International School in Vadodara, was selected as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. Rohan Rawal, studying in class 12 at Zydus School in Ahmedabad, will play the role of Chief Minister in the one-day youth assembly. Meanwhile, Gautam Dave from Gandhinagar has been selected as the Leader of Opposition.
Two to three interviews and there were different topics
Mishri Shah said, “We had two to three interviews and there were different topics. We have rehearsed how to speak act and understand the format. First there will be a question and answer session, followed by a discussion on the budget. Also there will be a time slot in which I can put my own thoughts and opinions on the table.”
Talking about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rohan Rawal said, “Narendra Modi had said earlier that it is not Hindus or Muslims, but we are all Indians first. On one hand there is impressive progress but still unemployment is high in the country. The rupee has fallen crude prices are in question and war is on. There is a problem and it is necessary to find a proper resolution.
